What is alive and what is dead in phenomenology?
Since the works of its founder, Edmund Husserl, phenomenology has undergone considerable development to date, occupying a prominent place in the panorama of philosophical studies. This edition of the SSPPP2026 Summer School aims to promote reflection on the role and value of phenomenology within contemporary philosophy and culture. What makes phenomenology still a vital philosophical current today? What is its specific place within the ever-growing number of research areas of contemporary philosophy? Does the most radical dimension of phenomenology as Husserl presented it, viz., the transcendental phenomenological investigation of and task of establishing the foundations for all disciplinary cognition, including that of philosophy, still have any significant philosophical currency today? How can phenomenology, also in the broad sense that the term has taken on since Husserl’s death, contribute to addressing the most pressing questions that science, technology, and, more generally, the current historical period raise in us?

The number of attendants being limited, a selection will take place. It is a prerequisite to be a Master or a PhD student. There will be no attendance fee.
Deadline for submission: May 1, 2026
Notification of acceptance: May 3, 2026
A number of students will present short papers. Each student presentation will last twenty minutes and will be followed by a thirty-minute discussion. Once the selection of this year’s students has taken place, we will circulate a call for abstracts.
On Friday afternoon (3/7/2026), we will organize a visit to the Biennale Arte 2026.
